Leave it to the big brains at Taylor Made Golf: they’ve invented a club that is as malleable as warm clay, as flexible as a yogi on muscle relaxants. The new R1 driver — replacing the now ubiquitous, white-frosted R11 — is designed with a little something called “Loft Sleeve Technology,” which enables we-of-the-inconsistent-swings to adjust the loft angle of the big stick depending on how we feel that day, wind conditions, etc. Twelve settings are available between 8˚ and 12˚ — including 7 standard and 5 upright loft options.

Not only does this offer better players more ball flight control and workability, it also ensures that one doesn’t make an expensive investment in a club with the wrong loft angle. Of course, other adjustments are possible with the R1 as well — movable weights enable custom shot-shaping options, and there are 7 face angle options from Neutral/square to maximum closed. It’s a handsome devil too — you’ll like the way this club looks as well as feels. Dang — just when I started to get used to my R11, TaylorMade comes along and tempts me to new-club madness again!
